The problem

Why most rapid-charging projects stall

Six-figure grid upgrades

A new high-power grid connection often runs into six figures before the charger itself: transformer stations, new cabling, the lot.

Years on the waiting list

DNO lead times for new connections are measured in months or years. The project stalls before it starts.

Civils that close your site

Trenching and groundworks mean tearing up your forecourt or car park, lost takings and disruption while it all happens.

How the Flexpole works

The battery does what the grid can’t

A battery-buffered EV charging station that delivers rapid charging from a standard 400 V three-phase connection — no new grid connection needed.
01

Plug into what you have

The Flexpole connects to your existing 400 V three-phase supply, anything from 16 to 63 A. A standard low-voltage connection, not a new grid line.

02

The battery buffers

A 160 kWh usable battery charges quietly and continuously from that small feed, storing energy ready for the next vehicle.

03

Drivers fast-charge

The Flexpole releases that stored energy as up to 150 kW DC, charging two vehicles at once. Up to 250 kW across the system.

The business case

A charger that pays its way

Why UK businesses are installing battery-buffered EV chargers instead of waiting for grid upgrades.

Earn from every charge

You set the per-kWh price. The unit fills up slowly on cheaper power and sells it as premium rapid charging: margin on every session, from day one.

Charging customers stay and spend

Drivers spend 15 to 40 minutes on site while they charge. That is dwell time at your shop, cafe or till, not at a competitor.

Buy off-peak, sell at peak

Charge the 160 kWh battery when energy is cheapest, then turn the grid connection down — or completely off — when prices spike. No peak fees, no buying at the top.

Make solar pay a premium

Got panels? Store surplus generation in the Flexpole and sell it to drivers at charging rates, instead of exporting it for pennies.

Questions, answered

Questions, answered

What is the Elli Flexpole?+

The Elli Flexpole is a battery-buffered rapid EV charging station from Elli, Volkswagen Group’s charging brand. A built-in 160 kWh battery lets it deliver up to 150 kW DC fast charging from a standard three-phase connection, with no grid upgrade and no excavation.

How much does a Flexpole cost?+

Pricing depends on your site and how many units you need. Your installer provides a full, no-obligation quote covering the unit and installation. Elli prices in tiers for 1 to 5, 5 to 10, and 10-plus units.

What power supply do I need?+

A standard 400 V three-phase connection, 16 to 63 A. Not sure what you have? Your installer confirms it during the site survey.

Do I need planning permission or groundworks?+

No excavation is needed. The Flexpole sits on the surface and can be relocated later, so it avoids the trenching and civils a fixed grid connection usually needs.

Can I charge the public and take payments?+

Yes. The Flexpole supports contactless and RFID payments and can run in free-vend mode for private fleets. You set the pricing.

Can I move it later?+

Yes. The Flexpole is designed to be relocated, so it can move as your needs change. Useful for leased sites or changing demand.

Who installs and maintains it?+

A suitable accredited installer from Elli’s UK network, matched to you by installHUB. They handle the survey, install and ongoing support, backed by Volkswagen Group.
