Why this EV charge point installer came back

A growing EV charge point installer outgrew what installHUB could do, moved to a rival that promised the customisation they needed, and returned just over a year later. This is what they run on it now.

In their words

Why they went, and why they returned

“As Costelloes EV grew, our requirements became more complex and we needed some bespoke functionality that wasn't available within InstallHub at the time. Another software provider offered a similar system with some of the customisation we needed, so we made the decision to move away. Just over a year later, we came back to InstallHub.”

Losing a customer to a competitor is not usually the opening line of a case study. It is the reason this one is worth reading: the platform they came back to was not the one they left.

“During the time we'd been away, it was clear the InstallHub team had listened to its users and invested heavily in developing the platform. The improvements in customisation were significant and, in several areas, what they had developed was actually better than what we'd originally been asking for.”

The day job

One system for an EV charge point installer, enquiry to payment

Costelloe’s EV are not running a network. They win the work and their own operatives install it, which is how most installHUB customers use the platform.

The workflow they run Alternative path available Add-on that would extend it
1

Leads come in and land as jobs

Enquiries arrive into the platform rather than into an inbox, so a lead is a record with an address and a requirement attached from the moment it exists.

2

Every lead gets reviewed

Leads are qualified before anyone spends time on them, so effort goes to the jobs worth surveying.

UsesCRM
3

A survey appointment is booked

The survey is scheduled as an appointment against the job, with the customer, rather than arranged by phone and remembered separately.

Add-on

Let the customer pick the slot themselves

Instead of a call to agree a time, the customer can be sent a link and choose from the slots that are genuinely free. It removes a round of phone tag from every single job.

4

The quotation goes out

Pricing is built from what the survey found and sent to the customer from the same record. The DNO notification is raised from the job rather than chased as a separate task, which is the part that quietly eats a day a week in this trade.

5

The install is assigned to their own team

Accepted work is scheduled to their own field operatives, who work the job from the mobile app on site rather than from a printed sheet.

6

Payment is taken on completion

The job is invoiced and paid when the work is done, closing the loop in the same place it opened rather than in an accounts package a week later.

What it changed

Hours of paperwork, back

“InstallHub was a genuine game changer for us. It brought everything together, streamlined the grant process, simplified DNO notifications and helped us stay compliant. More importantly, it took hours of paperwork out of our working day and allowed our team to spend more time dealing with customers and actually installing EV charge points.”

That last sentence is the whole argument. An installer does not buy software to have better software. They buy it to spend the day installing rather than filing.
