Custom job types

If you can describe the job, installHUB can run it.

Thirteen job types are live today, across installation, servicing and reactive repair. When the work you do is not one of them, we build the job type for you: the enquiry form the customer fills in, the form your field operative fills in on site, and the documents that come out of those answers. Custom job types are how the platform stops being an EV and solar tool and starts being yours.
The basics

What a job type is, and what makes it custom

The terms, before the list.
What is a job type?
A job type is one kind of work the platform knows how to run end to end. Each one carries its own enquiry form, its own on-site form for the field operative, its own document templates, and its own default duration and travel padding so the scheduler books it correctly. An EV charger install and a leaking radiator are both jobs, but almost nothing about the questions, the evidence or the paperwork is the same, which is why they are separate job types rather than one generic job with a free-text box.
What does a custom job type mean here?
It means the job type is built to match your work, by us, before you go live. You describe the trade, what your office needs to know at enquiry, what the field operative has to capture on site and what document the customer ends up with. We build the job type and its forms and switch it on for your account. This is the same promise document templates already carry, and the usual turnaround is about a week.
Is installHUB only for EV, solar and heat pumps?
No. That is where it started and those job types are the most developed, but the platform runs installation, planned servicing and reactive repair. Gas and heating repair, boiler servicing and plumbing repair went live in September 2026 alongside general electrical work, external wall insulation and the four service and maintenance types. The job lifecycle, scheduling, mobile app, invoicing and customer portal do not care which trade the job belongs to.
Can we change the forms ourselves?
Yes, on Pro and above. Form customisation lets you hide questions you never ask, reorder sections and add your own questions on top of the core form, without waiting for us. Creating a brand new job type stays with us, because a job type is more than its form: it carries scheduling defaults, document templates and, where relevant, regulatory routing.
Custom job types in installHUB: the enquiry form the customer fills in, the job data form the field operative completes on site, and the document generated from the same answers

A plumbing repair, one of the job types that went live in September 2026. The answers move left to right. What the field operative records on site is what the document says, so nobody retypes the job into a second place for the paperwork to exist.

Live today

Thirteen job types, ready to switch on

These are the custom job types already built and shipping. Nothing here is a roadmap item.

Installation

Survey, quote, install and certify a new asset.

  • EV charger
  • Solar PV
  • Battery storage
  • Heat pump
  • External wall insulation
  • General electrical work

Servicing and maintenance

Planned, recurring visits against an installed asset.

  • Service and maintenance
  • EV charger service
  • Solar PV service
  • Battery storage service
  • Boiler service

Reactive repair

Something has broken and someone needs to attend.

  • Gas and heating repair
  • Plumbing repair

Custom job types for reactive repair can also carry an insurance claim section, so a job placed by an insurer, a warranty provider or a home emergency provider records the claim reference, the excess and the authorisation alongside the repair itself. That is how the insurance repair network proposition is put together.

The three pieces

Custom job types come down to three things

The enquiry form, for whoever raises the job

A form built around the trade, not a generic contact box. It asks what your office actually needs before anyone is dispatched, and it hides the questions that do not apply based on earlier answers, so a customer reporting a leak is never asked about roof pitch. Publish it as a link, embed it on your site, feed it from bulk import or push jobs in through Zapier. Every submission lands as a job record, not an email.

The job data form, for the field operative on site

The second form is the one filled in with the job in front of you: findings, parts used, readings, photographs with time and location, sketches, barcode scans and the customer signature. It works offline and syncs when there is signal. Safety and access questions can be put in front of the visit rather than after it, and sections can be restricted so a customer never sees the operative-only parts of the form.

The documents, generated from those answers

The certificate, report or handover pack is built from the answers already captured, so nobody retypes the job into a second system. Templates carry your branding, are versioned, and can be regenerated on demand. If the document your trade needs does not exist yet, we build the template, usually within a week.

Scope

What this covers, and what it deliberately does not

What custom job types do, and what they are not. A precise boundary makes the rest of the page easier to trust.

What installHUB does

  • Build a new job type for your trade, forms and documents included
  • Branch the enquiry form so only relevant questions appear
  • Split operative-only sections away from what the customer sees
  • Generate branded documents from the answers already captured
  • Set scheduling defaults per job type, including travel padding
  • Attach a shared section, such as insurance claim details, to several job types at once
  • Let you customise the core forms yourself on Pro and above
  • Version a form so historic jobs keep the questions they were answered with

What it does not do

  • ×Let you create a brand new job type yourself in the app
  • ×Generate MCS certificates, or handle BUS voucher or OZEV paperwork
  • ×Connect to a claims platform, an ERP or a trade-specific design tool
  • ×Replace your accounting system, which it syncs with instead
  • ×Guess a job type from free text, since each one is set up deliberately
Questions

Job types, answered

Does installHUB handle plumbing, gas and boiler work?+

Yes. Gas and heating repair, plumbing repair and boiler servicing are live job types, each with its own intake form and its own on-site form for the field operative. They sit alongside the installation job types rather than replacing them, so a business doing both installs and call-outs runs everything from one system.

Can we add a job type installHUB does not already have?+

Yes. Tell us the trade, what your office needs to know at enquiry, what the field operative has to capture on site and what document the customer should end up with. We build the job type, its forms and its document templates and enable them for your account. New job types are set up by us rather than created in the app, because custom job types also carry scheduling defaults and document templates, not just a form.

How long does a new job type take to set up?+

The usual turnaround is about a week for a job type built from a description you have already thought through. What slows it down is not the build, it is deciding exactly which questions matter, so coming with a real example of the job helps more than anything else.

Can we edit the forms ourselves once they are live?+

On Pro and above, yes. Form customisation lets you hide questions you never ask, reorder sections and add your own questions on top of the core form. Multiple enquiry form links are on the same plans, so you can run a different intake form per campaign or per client. On the Business plan you get the core forms as built.

What happens to jobs already answered when a form changes?+

Nothing. Forms are versioned, so a job keeps the questions and answers it was completed with and new jobs pick up the new version. That matters when a document was generated from those answers and has to still make sense years later.

Is there a limit on how many job types we can run?+

No. Businesses commonly run several at once, for example an install job type, a servicing job type against the same asset and a reactive repair job type for call-outs. Each one keeps its own forms, documents and scheduling defaults while sharing one customer record and one calendar.

Can one section of a form be reused across several job types?+

Yes. A section can be built once and attached to several job types. Insurance claim details work that way: the same claim reference, excess and authorisation questions appear on gas, plumbing and boiler jobs without being maintained three times.

Does it generate MCS certificates or handle grant paperwork?+

No, and we would rather say so plainly. MCS certification, BUS voucher workflow and OZEV documentation are not part of the shipped product. Automated DNO notification is the compliance workflow that does ship, and it applies to grid connection work rather than to repairs.
